Privacy Policy
Effective October 16, 2026
This policy explains how SnapMap handles information when you use SnapMap at snapmapped.com, including its creative community, location guides, photo sharing, and related photography services. “SnapMap,” “we,” and “us” mean the team operating this service.
Information we handle
- Account and profile information: email address, display name, username, password authentication data, roles, profile details, ZIP code, and information you choose to publish. Authentication is provided through Supabase; we do not receive or store your plaintext password.
- Photos and community activity: images, captions, collaboration requests, comments or messages, likes, follows, reports, location guides, and other content you submit. Public profile and portfolio material, approved public guides, and public posts can be seen by visitors. Client photosets may appear in the public gallery directory or be reachable only by a direct link, depending on their settings; a password may also be enabled.
- Location: if you choose “Use my location,” your browser provides approximate device coordinates. SnapMap saves that choice in local browser storage so location-based feed and guide features can use it on later visits. You can clear it in your browser’s site data or choose location again. If you enter a ZIP code, address, or place, we use that input to find nearby content or a place; Google Places may process place searches.
- Messages and contact details: information you submit through the contact form, collaboration tools, or client-gallery features, such as your name, email, phone number, and message. Client contact records are available to authorized administrators for gallery delivery and follow-up.
- Technical information: browser and device details, request and error logs, IP address, and information stored through cookies or similar technologies. Hosting and security providers may process these details to operate and protect the service.
How we use information
We use information to operate accounts and profiles; show and search posts, people, and location guides; provide location-aware features when you request them; store and deliver photos; send messages or gallery links; respond to support and safety reports; prevent abuse and enforce our rules; maintain security; and improve reliability and the service. We use your browser’s saved location choice only to provide the location-based features you use, and you can remove or replace it at any time.
Cookies, advertising, and Google
SnapMap uses browser storage and similar technologies for account sessions, saved preferences, and site functionality. We also use Google AdSense advertising code. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, or other identifiers to serve, measure, and personalize ads, subject to your settings and applicable law. You can learn how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services and manage Google ad personalization in My Ad Center. Blocking cookies may affect some site features.
When information is shared
We share information as needed with service providers that help us host and secure SnapMap (including Vercel), provide database, authentication, and photo storage services (including Supabase), provide maps and place search (including Google), and deliver gallery emails (including Resend where that feature is used). They process information to provide those services under their own terms and privacy practices.
Information is also shared when you choose to make a profile, post, portfolio, or guide public; when you send a message or share a gallery link; when needed to protect users, enforce our rules, respond to valid legal requests, or protect rights and safety; or as part of a business transfer. We do not publish private account credentials. We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising and privacy laws may define certain advertising-related disclosures differently.
Retention and your choices
We keep account, content, and contact information while needed to provide the service, honor gallery settings, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and protect the community. Some information may remain in backups or security records for a limited period after deletion. You can edit or remove information through available account controls. To ask us to access, correct, or delete information, close an account, or ask a privacy question, use the SnapMap contact form. We may need to verify your request and retain information that we are legally required or permitted to keep.
Security and international processing
We use access controls and service-provider safeguards designed to protect information, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. Our providers may process information in the United States or other countries where they or their infrastructure operate.
Adults only
SnapMap is intended for people age 18 and older. Do not create an account or submit personal information if you are under 18. If you believe a minor has provided information, contact us so we can review and remove it as appropriate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service or legal requirements change. We will post the revised version here and update its effective date. Material changes may also be announced through the service.
